With a huge range of on-site facilities there are plenty of things to do when staying at Brandshatch Hotel & Spa, but outside of its 12 acres of grounds the Kent countryside and all of its attractions demand exploring, too.
Scott McDonald has been with the Hand Picked Hotels for over ten years now, beginning his career with us as an Assistant Food and Beverage Manager at L'Horizon Beach Hotel & Spa, in Jersey. He climbed the managerial ranks while working at New Hall Hotel & Spa, followed by Hendon Hall Hotel and then joined Brandshatch Place in May of this year.
Set in 12 acres of grounds, this stunning Georgian mansion is the perfect place for a relaxing and peaceful retreat with its own health club and spa, yet is still easily accessible from central London and offers good access to Heathrow, Gatwick and the Channel Tunnel, which is one of the main reasons why Scott likes the hotel so much – and he has plenty of tips of how to best plan a long weekend here.
After check in, why not drop in at our health club and spa – it is a great place to work out with a state-of-the-art gym, spin and exercise studios and tennis courts, or unwind with a treatment or two, or a dip in our indoor swimming pool, before heading to our spa pool, sauna and steam rooms. For dinner, head to our 2 AA Rosette restaurant where our dining is all about regional flavours and seasonal ingredients.
Get off to a good start with a traditional breakfast cooked to order or one of our specialities, such as the grilled oak smoked kipper with roasted tomatoes.
I then recommend you spend the morning at Mount Vineyard, nestled in the quintessentially British village of Shoreham it produces award-winning still and sparkling wines. Recently bestowed the title Wine Tasting Experience of the Year by the Luxury Travel Guide, you can enjoy wines by the glass or bottle in their lovely tasting room and courtyard. They also offer substantial cheese and charcuterie boards plus stone baked pizzas, flat breads and dips to nibble on whilst you enjoy your drinks.
By this point you will be well fuelled for an afternoon at Eagle Heights Wildlife Foundation, home to one of the UK's largest Bird of Prey Centres. With a collection of approximately 100 raptors, which includes over 50 species, many of them can be seen flying in their daily demonstrations. They also have a wildlife sanctuary and house a variety of animals.
Come the evening head back to the hotel for a treatment in the spa to unwind then enjoy a pre-dinner drink in our Drawing Room lounge and bar before heading to the Dining Room for dinner.
If you don’t fancy a hot breakfast why not sample our delicious cold buffet, which is also available, with cereals, yoghurts, freshly baked breads and pastries and a selection of fruits, cheeses and cold meats. Before heading home, pop into Bluewater – where you will find all the stores you love, various leisure facilities and seasonal events happening and over 50 bars, restaurants and cafes. Be warned shopaholics may need to set aside a whole day.
