We know it’s hardly a holiday if you have to leave one of your family behind. That’s why we’re proud to now welcome dogs to our properties right across the Hand Picked Hotels group.

A survey from insurers Petplan found that more than 60% of dog owners design their holidays around their pooch. With new dog ownership rising over lockdown and 2020 proving the year of the staycation, it’s likely that more people than ever before will be looking for good dog-friendly hotels across the UK.

So, you’ll be pleased to hear that our country house hotels go further than allowing your four-legged friend to stay in your room with you. We extend our animal guests that same outstanding service that you expect yourself.

On arrival, your four-legged friend will find a comfy dog bed and cushion and a bowl in your room, along with some snacks that are sure to set their tail wagging. They’ll even receive a personalised welcome letter from the hotel’s General Manager! Let us know your dog’s name and breed to help us make our greeting extra personal.

There’s no need to leave them in your bedroom as you head for cocktails or a meal, they can lie contentedly at your feet as we serve you up a delicious lunch, afternoon tea or dinner in one of our designated dog-friendly lounges and bars or on the terrace.

Of course, our hotels each have acres of space to roam and our team will be happy to recommend walking routes in the grounds. We even keep a stock of wellies handy, in case you forget yours.

Among our dog-friendly hotels with the most glorious opportunities for on site walkies are Buxted Park Hotel, set in 312 acres of fine East Sussex parkland; Ettington Park Hotel with its ample grounds spread over a valley bisected by the River Stour and close to the Cotswold Way; Chilston Park Hotel in Kent and Fawsley Hall Hotel & Spa, Northamptonshire which both have lakes to circuit and Crathorne Hall in North Yorkshire, which boasts its own woodland walk.

If you’re in search of wider adventures together, you’ll find members of our collection located in some of the UK’s finest scenery.

Stay at St Pierre Park Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort, Guernsey or Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa or L’Horizon Beach Hotel & Spa in Jersey and you and your dog will have your pick of expansive Channel Islands beaches on which to roam.

Base yourself at Wood Hall Hotel & Spa and you’ll be close to the Yorkshire Dales where you can follow in the (fictional) footsteps of Mr Rochester’s dog Pilot in Jane Eyre as you explore so-called ‘Bronte country’.

You’ll be happily situated between the Ashdown Forest, which inspired the Winnie the Pooh stories, and the glorious views afforded from the South Downs Way if you book a stay at our Buxted Park Hotel in Sussex.

From Rhinefield House Hotel at Brockenhurst, Hampshire you’ll be able to set out into the New Forest together.

Considering a city break? Edinburgh, home to our Norton House Hotel & Spa , was this year voted the UK’s most dog-friendly city by dog food company tails.com for its high number of pooch-welcoming pubs and nearby green spaces.

When your furry friend returns from one of these ultimate strolls and is snuggled up in their bed, put the Pet in Residence hanger provided on your door knob so they are not disturbed.

We have made sure the dog-friendly rooms we have allocated in our hotels have easy access to the grounds, so your pooch is perfectly placed to answer a late night call of nature or to take a glorious romp through the gardens. All we ask is that you keep your pet on a lead in the public areas of your hotel and clean up any mess they make on their walks.

A charge of £20 per dog per day, and £10 per second dog per day, will be billed to your account for the first three nights of your stay.
