Country house hotel group, Hand Picked Hotels, is marking 200 years since the birth of Emily Brontë with her literary classic Wuthering Heights being given away as part of a new winter leisure break.

The ‘Novel Winter Escape’ is designed to encourage guests to cherish the classic novels of British literature and spend their quality leisure time curled up with a good book instead of their smartphone.

The group has created bespoke copies of the iconic novel from Brontë, born in 1818, for guests to find on their pillow when checking in to one of 20 Hand Picked Hotels across the UK and the Channel Islands on a Novel Winter Escape.

Julia Hands, Chairman and CEO of Hand Picked Hotels commented, “As a fan of classic literature, I hope many of our customers will enjoy our new winter break, as we invite them to swap their phones for prose this season in order to properly switch off.”

Julia continued, “In celebrating the anniversary of one of Britain’s most prolific writers, we are giving our guests the opportunity to delve into a bygone era, to soak up the atmosphere of a traditional country house where many classic novels are set and enjoy a real escape from it all.”

Each Hand Picked Hotel is located in a beautiful setting and has a fascinating past as a former school, monastery, stately home or country house that tells its own story.  The collection of historic hotels and spa resorts epitomises the classic country house hotel experience. Unique features include stained-glass windows, vaulted ceilings and wood-panelled dining rooms and each hotel offers a mix of contemporary guestrooms and spacious suites along with elegant lounges and restaurants serving award-winning cuisine.

Only available to book in January for stays between 8th January and 29th March 2018, Hand Picked Hotels’ Novel Winter Escape for two includes accommodation, a seasonal 3-course dinner, traditional breakfast and a copy of Wuthering Heights* and is priced from only £149 per room per night.  Destinations include the New Forest in Hampshire, Stratford-upon-Avon in Warwickshire and Ashdown Forest in East Sussex as well as Worcestershire, Cheshire, Surrey, Kent, North and West Yorkshire, Northamptonshire, Bath, Edinburgh, Guernsey and Jersey.
