We meet Jamie and Nick who's civil marriage was held at the beautiful Stanbrook Abbey Hotel, a wedding venue in Worcestershire.

We were told about Stanbrook Abbey Hotel in Callow End near Worcester by our hairstylist Anna Morina and even just looking at the photos online we fell in love with the wedding venue. However, nothing quite prepared us for how amazing it actually is in 'person', from the moment we drove through the gates we were totally blown away at how magnificent it is.

We met with Liza Wilkinson from their events team and she instantly 'got us' and her natural love of the venue totally sold it to us. We never felt pressured, although we’re sure our enthusiasm for Stanbrook was evident. The Callow Great Hall is the jewel in the crown and like something out of a fairytale, it's stunning.

On a more practical note, we wanted a venue with accommodation and once again Stanbrook didn’t disappoint. We stayed in the Cardinal Suite, which is a must for all wedding couples and with 54 other bedrooms it could easily host all our guests for the night.

Our theme for the day was one of simplicity. We didn’t want over the top decoration as we felt the Callow Great Hall and the Thompson Dining Hall didn’t require it. They are stunning as they are. We had white roses and blue thistles and our wedding stationery was white and grey, these colours tied in with our wedding outfits.

We didn’t have the traditional favours, we chose to donate to Multiple Sclerosis Society, this was detailed on our menu’s on the tables. We didn’t have the traditional speeches either, we chose to do an 'open mic' type format and asked guests to speak if they so wished. This worked really well as it got all guests involved in the day. Also, we didn’t want traditional formal photographs, we wanted our photographer to blend in with our guests and take natural shots. Which we have to say she did exceptionally well as we barely noticed she was there.

All of our suppliers were great.

  • Katie from Still Light Photography is a wonderful photographer and so easy to get along with.
  • Simply Flowers by Catherine arranged our flowers and they were amazing. We were blown away at how beautiful they were, it made us cry when we first saw the room!
  • Marvellous Glow supplied our Mr&Mr letter lights, they were extremely efficient and it was seamless from ordering to installation and removal. Total professionals.
  • Nick's sister Sophie, made our cake. She is not a professional cake maker, she does it as a hobby. The cake looked amazing and tasted even better. She is so talented!

Our day was perfect. We didn’t have to think about anything. This was mainly down to Liza in the run up and then Clyde the Events Manager on the day. He was the most efficient, calm, organised, helpful and genuinely lovely person. Nothing was too much trouble, he even ran up to our room to pick up the order of the day cards and confetti that we forgot to bring down.

We had a day of pure love, laughter and happiness, which we will cherish forever.
