Beaulieu Motor Museum

Bucklers Hard

Step back in time on the banks of the Beaulieu River at the peaceful haven of Buckler's Hard. Discover what it was like to live and work in an 18th century shipbuilding village; home to the ships built for Nelson's fleet at Trafalgar.

Today, the village continues to thrive, unspoilt by the passage of time; As you stroll along the nearby Woodland Walk you will discover how the local timber at Buckler's Hard was used in the 18th and 19th centuries to construct ships for the British Navy.

Eling Tide Mill & Heritage Centre

 

Open January - December from Wednesday - Sunday.

Eling Tide Mill is a water mill that harnesses the power of the tide to grind wheat into wholemeal flour. Situated on the edge of Southampton Water beside the renowned New Forest, there has been a mill on the site for over 900 years producing flour daily.

Exbury Gardens

Exbury Gardens and Steam Railway - a magical place in the New Forest National Park. The Gardens are a spectacular 200 acre (100 hectare) site, world-famous for the Rothschild Collection of rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias and rare trees and shrubs. Highcliffe Castle

 

Open February - December.

Highcliffe Castle has been described as arguably the most important surviving house of the Romantic and Picturesque style of architecture, which flourished at the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century. Its significance is recognised nationally by its Grade 1 status on the Statutory List of Buildings of Special Architectural and Historical Interest.

Hurst Castle

 

Open April - October daily. Open November - March at weekends.

Hurst Castle is situated at the seaward end of the shingle spit that extends 1.5 miles from Milford-On-Sea. The end of the spit, only three-quarters of a mile from the Isle of Wight, and the views from the top of the centre keep are spectacular.

Hurst Castle was the perfect location to defend the western approach to the Solent. The castle was built by Henry VIII as one of a chain of coastal fortresses and was completed in 1544. Charles I was imprisoned here in 1648 before being taken to London to his trial and execution.

Mushroom Walk

Hidden Britain Tours invites you to join fungi experts from Hampshire Fungus Recording Group [HFRG] for a guided walk and introduction to mushroom identification. On these walks you will explore the beautiful habitats and identify different species of fungi that grow in the New Forest.

Our experts will enable you to identify the characteristics of the many varieties of fungi found here, what is good to eat and what is best left alone. The emphasis of these fungi forays is identification, conservation and education.

New Forest Show

 

24th - 26th July 2012.

The New Forest and Hampshire County Show is an annual agricultural show held for three days at the end of July at New Park, Brockenhurst in Hampshire. We aim to create a great family day out with much to do, learn and see. The show attracts, on average, 95,000 visitors every year and brings together a celebration of traditional country pursuits, crafts, produce and entertainment.
