Living History Lessons at New Hall Hotel
Students from class 4C at Hollyfield School in Sutton Coldfield, visited the hotel at the beginning of this Summer as a request from their teacher as they were studying English History and thought New Hall was a perfect fit.
Over two separate days around 25 pupils visited the hotel for a living history lesson. Prior to the visit we had sent over copies of the history and ghost stories to the school so they were well prepared!
As well as the historical interest they also discovered that New Hall, as it is today, was built over a number of time periods however with a blend that is evident today.
Henry VIII and the history surrounding him and also the young Princess Elizabeth who as we know later became Queen Elizabeth the first – was an integral part of their 4th year curriculum.
As you will see from the letters the history and ghost stories were of great interest however I would suggest our chef’s cookies probably was the overall winner for the visit.
We will continue to support Hollyfield School in 2012 when the next group of class 4 pupils visit New Hall for their very own living history experience…….and no doubt more cookies!!
I am writing to you because we want to say thank you for letting us visit your hotel.
We would like to come again we had loads of fun.
We loved the biscuits and going around the garden.
The spooky story scared us the headless man was the most scary story
When we walked through the hall we sketched some things. Then we saw biscuits and we enjoyed eating them. Then we went to the garden we had a lovely time we walked across the field.
Then we went past lots of trees they were nice and most of us were scared of geese.
Thank you for our visit.
We are writing to you to thank you about our trip to New Hall Hotel.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and we hope we can go there again.
We learnt that George Sacheverell got locked up in the great chamber.
We really enjoyed hearing about the spooky stories.
It helped us to learn about the local area, we learned that George Sacheverell had written on the window with a special diamond.
We loved looking at the huge, bright and green field in the garden it felt really nice to us because you let us go on the field.
As we walked across the moat we saw strange trees, the leaves were standing up instead of hanging down.
It was a pleasure letting us go around the whole of New Hall hotel. We both loved going round we wish we could go every year.
