VC Family Estates
Forged from several mountainous valleys along the southwest coast of South America, Chile has seen a renaissance in its agricultural heritage with wine. VC Family Estates are harnessing the unique climate and dramatic terroir (mountains, valleys, proximity to the ocean) to make world class wines. The winemaking team here has a particularly Burgundian accent. Consultant is Pascal Marchand, ex winemaker at Domaine de la Vougeraie, and in day to day charge is Louis Vallet, son of Bernard Vallet of the eponymous Burgundy domaine. It is little wonder perhaps that Chardonnay & Pinot Noir seems to be something of an obsession, including new clones of Pinot Noir being developed in a joint venture between VC Family Estates, the University of Concepcion and UC Davis in California. The Aconcagua valley is located 110 km north of Santiago. It is a valley surrounded by hills that follows the course of the Aconcagua River and is known for having a dry, Mediterranean climate with as little as 300mm of rain per year.
