About Brandshatch Place Hotel
A sophisticated Georgian mansion built in 1806, Brandshatch Place Hotel & Spa stands proudly in the lush countryside known as the Garden of England.
Saxten’s Wood
On the sides and plateau of a beautiful valley, and to the back of the hotel, stands Saxten's Wood - a valued and well loved piece of the Kent landscape. The site has a wide range of woodland species, including those typical of ancient woodland. It is particularly important for its wildlife, particularly dormice. It has Class ll status for nature conservation importance.
Parts of the site resemble tangled jungle - the result of damage cause by the devastating storm of 1987. Many of the trees that fell were left and now form valuable habitats though some of the rides were blocked, hampering free access to sections of the site.
However walkers and ramblers make good use of the public footpath that bisects the woodland and the interesting routes around and through most of it.
