 Ancient market town

Stratford upon Avon is a beautiful town and it is amazing to think that it was set out as a new town in 1196, on a medieval grid system. This is why the streets are straight and why it is easy to find your way around. And even though some of the shops are modern, always look up from time to time and you will find wavy roofs, terracotta dragons on roofs, odd little windows and lots of black and white buildings - painted black and white by the Victorians because they thought it looked neater.
