Application Process
Once you’ve searched through our vacancies and submitted your CV, you may be wondering what will happen next. This section will give you an idea of how we process applicants, the actual interview process, along with some tips on what we’re looking for when we’re searching for the next Hand Picked team member.
We are also very keen to hear from you even if we don’t have a suitable vacancy available. You can submit your details speculatively by using one of the links on the vacancies page, we will then keep your details on file should anything suitable become available.
Your Application
Once we have received your application, it will be compared against the criteria for the job. We will consider your skills, knowledge, qualifications, and previous experience before making a decision on whether you would be suitable for the role.
If you have been unsuccessful, you will be informed in writing.
The Interview!
We will normally contact you by phone or email to arrange an interview. First interviews are held by the person who would be your line manager along with the Human Resources Manager. You’ll be asked to complete an application form if you haven’t already done so and provide proof of your eligibility to work in the UK.
We may sometimes request to do an initial telephone interview with you if you live a long way away or to help shortlist applicants for interview. However, we do prefer to see you face to face.
During the interview, we will be looking to gain evidence from you of how you behave and react to certain situations. Therefore, it may be an idea for you to have a think of situations where you’ve demonstrated some key skills, for example, teamwork, problem solving, and customer service. These examples can be taken from your current or previous job roles, your personal life, school/college or even your hobbies/interests.
As well as telling you about the company, the hotel and the role, we will also tell you about the benefits and development opportunities available at Hand Picked Hotels. More information can be found about these by using the links on the left.
If you are successful you will normally be invited back for a second interview which will include meeting the General Manager (they’re not as scary as you may think!) and having a good look round the hotel and the department you will be working in. This is your final opportunity to shine and convince us that you’re what Hand Picked Hotels are looking for.
If you are unsuccessful at any stage we will let you know, normally in writing. If you would like detailed feedback please contact the relevant HR Manager.
Interview tips
Here are a few useful pointers to help you along the way:
- Keep your answers concise and clear
- Remember that interviews are a two way process so it would be great to hear any questions you have
- Have a look at the job description and think about the 5 questions you are most likely to get asked and put some thought into how you might answer them. If you haven’t received a job description contact the HR Manager at the hotel and request one.
- Relax - we want you to do well at the interview so take a deep breath and be yourself!
- Print out the directions and contact information for the hotel in case you get lost or are running late.
- Dress Code – we expect you to be smart and presentable. If in doubt, business dress is always a safe bet!
